Migrating your Bluesky account to Tophhie Social 🦋

Tophhie Social is a new atproto PDS (personal data server) hosted by Tophhie Cloud, allowing you to store your Bluesky (and other atproto app) data on a UK server, dedicated and build for your privacy.

Why would I move away from bsky.social?

You absolutely don't have to, because of the openness of atproto you have the freedom to move your account to wherever you see fit. Or, you can just keep it on Bluesky's PDSes (where your handle is bsky.social).

However, here's a few reasons as to why you might want to move your account to another PDS.

• Trust and control - You might prefer your account be hosted by an individual or organisation you trust more, one that resonates with your beliefs or privacy practices.
• Support - Most PDS providers offer some level of support with regards to account issues or queries. That support experience may be easier and more responsive.
• Data sovereignty - You may prefer your data to be hosted in a specific region, or your data to be stored somewhere with specific laws. Switzerland is known to have some of the best data protection laws in the world... you may feel more comfortable storing your data there!
  • Tophhie Social is hosted in the UK.
• Handle preference - bsky.social doesn't really scream personality. Some PDS server provide handles that are a bit more unique (or quirky).

Migrating over to Tophhie Social

We've made the process as easily as possible with the Tophhie Social PDS Migrator app. If your account is still on Bluesky's PDS, you can use the following tutorial. If you've moved to a third-party PDS, reach out at help@tophhie.cloud and we'll lend a hand!

Here's how to move across from Bluesky to Tophhie Social...

1. Head over to https://tophhie.social/migrate.
2. Enter the required information on the form, including:
   1. Your current handle.
   2. Your password.
   3. Your email address.
   4. What you'd like your new handle to be.
   5. Acknowledge the warning.

3. Click "Start Migration".
   1. If you have MFA turned on, you'll be prompted to enter the MFA code that was sent to your email address.
4. The app will then start migrating your data across from Bluesky into Tophhie Social.

5. You'll then be asked to enter the PLC token. This will have been sent to your email address. Enter that, and hit "Finalise Migration".

6. Your account has now been migrated! You can now log into Bluesky and any atproto applications with your new Tophhie Social account.
